Sports Gear Cleaning and Maintenance

I never really thought about maintaining my sports equipment until it started to fail, but just like our bodies, if you don’t take care of your gear, eventually it will break down. Sports gear may include protective clothing, tactical clothing, light weight clothing, work out clothes & equipment, protective pads, braces, helmets, gloves, footwear, camping/hunting gear, etc. All of this stuff requires preventative maintenance. If you don’t maintain sports equipment, it can fade, physically break down, smell, leak, ‘ugly out’, or wear out.

Today we’re all trying to get the maximum usage from our gear. There are many variables when considering cleaning equipment and apparel. How many days do you use it every week? How much do you sweat in your gear? What is normal use and what is heavy use? Do you do things to assist in the drying time after use? How do you store your equipment? Has it ever been cleaned, or how old is it?

If restoration is necessary, OdorBalance Offense and then Defense is your savior. This will clean out odor and its sourses (bacteria, soil, and sweaty oils), and then protect against future odor problems. **Intensity of cleaning (changing out dip or retreatment to restore to maximum cleanliness) may vary depending on odor/soil condition and age.

As you can see in the above graph, once an article has begun to break down, it may not be possible to completely restore it. But if you pre-treat or pre-protect with OdorBalance Defense when the article is new, you’ll save yourself the headaches of dealing with a reactive restoration. Getting rid of the smelly grime takes a little time and elbow grease but it will save you valuable replacement dollars. Once you’ve finished the initial cleaning and protection, protect your gear on the run by using the on-location OdorBalance Overtime spray. The longer you wait to maintain, the harder it is to restore. Stay ahead of the game!

OdorBalance has a line of products that can Protect, Restore and Maintain your apparel, gear, and footwear. Take the time to be healthy and odor free.
