Sport Wash Detergent

Not all detergent is the same. The big laundry detergent companies want you to feel like you just got a great deal. Price reflects quality… The more you can buy for the cheapest price the better… Right? …Wrong!!!

Companies combine big brand names together hoping to attract brand name buyers. Just because someone says in an advertisement that it smells better doesn’t mean the textile is really clean. Let’s take a look at the key features to look for in an ideal sport wash detergent.

Sport wash detergents need to be:

  • effective in removing odor… not masking it or covering it up with another fragrance.
  • specially designed to remove sport stains.
  • designed to remove residues that clog high-performance, breathable fabrics.**
  • provide lasting protection from things that are typically associated with odors (keeps working for up to 25 washings).
  • Eco friendly and healthier for the textile.

I buy products because they’re designed to work on whatever I need to clean. I also want that clean to last. Lastly, if it can protect me from the return of the same problem, I’ll gladly pay a little more for that.

OdorBalance® LaundryPro sport wash detergent is this product. Custom designed by a couple of cleaning consultants and a professional lacrosse player, its popularity is growing across the USA. Testimonials from real users are confirming its success. Every household can benefit from OdorBalance LaundryPro. High-performance clothing all over the world will be healthier for it. **most fabric softeners will clog up breathable fabrics. This causes a buildup of biofilm that’s the perfect habitat for microbial growth. Odor is caused by the presence of unwanted pollutants. If your stuff smells, it probably isn’t heathy to wear. OdorBalance removes the unwanted residues and pollutants and restores high-performance textiles so that they breathe again.

Sport Odor and Sweat Management

I was watching the 2012 Summer Olympics this weekend and was thinking how important it was for these athletes to manage their sweat.  These events require years of trading blood, sweat and tears for a chance to compete for just a few metals. This year there are over 10,000 athletes competing in a variety of 26 different sports.

Training for strength, power, endurance, speed, agility, flexibility, balance, tactical ability and mental fitness is not only a physical commitment but also a financial one.  So taking care of yourself and your equipment is extremely important. Some key factors to be aware of when competing, training or just working out are:

  • Pre-hydrate, sweat then re-hydrate
  • Drink and eat products that energize, rejuvenate and replenish
  • Be aware of the cleanliness of the environment you compete in
  • Clean and maintain your sports equipment, clothing and footwear
  • Get plenty of sleep

In most cases sweat is good because it cools your body down. If is not removed from sports apparel and equipment in proper time moisture, soil and body oils can cause odors that can hinder your ability to perform.  Sweat saturated sports apparel, sport uniforms, jerseys, swimsuits and footwear can become breeding grounds for bacteria.

There are some things that you can do to avoid smelling up your uniform, work-out equipment, locker, gym bag, equipment bag or footwear.

  1. Dry out or wash you stuff immediately after use
  2. Do not use fabric softeners or dryer sheets on high performance breathable fabrics.  Many of these will actually clog the pores in textiles inhibiting the ability of sweat to wick to the surface and evaporate.
  3. Protect your sports equipment with OdorBalance® Defense dip or Overtime spray. These both provide long lasting odor protector from odor and its sources. Made in the USA!
  4. Avoid cleaning products or odor counteractants that have strong fragrances.  All of OdorBalance products are odorless, non-allergenic, dye free detergents and cleaners that are designed specifically to remove sweat, body oils, soil including odor and its sources.
  5. Restore your used equipment using OdorBalance Offense/Defense cleaning system or use OdorBalance LaundryPro for your clothing and towels.

Good luck to all of the USA 2012 Summer Olympians.  Be odor free, stink free, happy and healthy. Restore,Protect and Maintain your Athletic Apparel, Gear and Footwear

How to Clean Athletic Shoes

Athletic or tennis shoes can get really smelly, and you shouldn’t be afraid to give your bad-smelling footwear a good cleaning every once in a while. It’s a simple, easy process; just follow these simple instructions. You’ll find that cleaning your shoes this way will remove the odor from your sneakers without ruining the shoes (or your washing machine).

To start it helps to remove the shoes’ inserts. Giving special attention to each section of the shoe will guarantee a thorough cleaning and a long-lasting odor protection. Some people say it’s ok to throw old sneakers in the washing machine with a load of towels, but this isn’t recommended for new or expensive athletic footwear.

To clean the athletic shoes, you will need water, 2 buckets (or a 2 sided sink), a scrub brush, and OdorBalance Offense/Defense. Fill one bucket with water and add 2 ounces of Offense per gallon of water. Completely submerge your footwear if possible – you shouldn’t be afraid to get them soaking wet. Take the brush and start scrubbing. Be careful not to scrub too hard or you could ruin the fabric on the uppers. A soft brush with moderate force is best. You can spend as much time as you want on this stage. The worse off the shoe is, the more time you might need to, but you should go over every area of the shoe at least a little. At this point, OdorBalance Offense is hard at work cutting through any dirt, grime, and odors on your footwear. Don’t be surprised if the water gets very brown, but if it gets too bad, you should make another wash to ensure effective cleaning.

It’s now time to ensure that your footwear is protected from odors long-term. Once you have finished scrubbing the shoes, put them in another wash – this time with OdorBalance Defense. It’s the same combination: 2 ounces of Defense to a gallon of water. This stage is incredibly easy. All you have to do is keep them submerged for at least 2 minutes. No scrubbing is needed! Defense will soak through the material and bond to every surface to ensure lasting odor protection.

Now just leave them out to air dry. Never put athletic shoes in the dryer. The heat could cause the shoes to melt or change shape!

Once all parts of the shoe are completely dry, you can reassemble your athletic shoes. They should not only be as good (and clean) as new, but they’ll also be protected from future odor problems for the entire season!

How We Smell Odors

Your sense of smell affects your perception of all people, places, and things; in fact, the sense of smell is considered the most powerful of human senses and acts as a strong memory trigger. But do you really understand the mechanics of smelling?

How We Smell Odors

With this brief clip from an educational film called Gateways to the Mind, you will learn how olfactory cell filaments and the molecules that chemically define different scents trigger signals in the brain, giving humans the experience of smell.

If you have unpleasant odors in your closet, gym bag, or laundry, combat them with the OdorBalance system. Our detergents, sprays, and dips will keep your clothing, shoes, and sports equipment from developing offensive smells. How to get rid of washing machine odor

Odor in the washing machines, especially front loading washing machines, is caused by bacteria. Not something you really want growing in the place you clean your clothes. So the objective here is to remove the bad smell in your washer by elliminating the causes of the odor First lets take a look at what causes washing machine to smell.

  1. Many liquid fabric softeners and cheep detergents can add to a residue buildup in your washer. This residue can become tacky and when mixed with lint and soil becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.
  2. Moisture is needed for bacteria to thrive and multiply.
  3. Bacteria likes to grow in dark, cool, moist areas where there is little light or air movement. (no air movement when not in use)
  4. A closed door traps moisture that has not fully evaporated. Always remove wet articles from washer and leave door slightly open so full evaporation of excess water is completed.

How do you remove the odor in washing machines?

  1. Take a good look at the rubber gasket just inside the door that seals the front loader from leaking when in use. This gasket often collects lint soil and grime in crevices that can be simply removed by wiping it out with a good cleaner. We recommend OdorBalance™ Offense.  Mix ½ oz of concentrated Offense into 1quart and wipe down inside washer especially all of the rubber gaskets..
  2. Put 2oz OdorBalance™  of Offense in laundry detergent dispenser and 2oz OdorBalance™ of Defense in washing machine rinse or fabric softer dispenser. Run machine with nothing in it on the sanitize setting or the hottest water setting you have.
  3. Odor will be gone and you have added protection so odors and their sources will be controlled.
  4. Use OdorBalance™ Laundry Pro to wash your clothes. Keep the odor out of clothes, towels and your washing machine. OdorBalance™ LaundryPro’s long lasting BactiShield™ protects your textiles and washing machine from foul odors and their sources for months at a time.
